The Lost Leather Bars Of Manhattan: A History

What's happened to the leather scene? Sure, events like IML and the Folsom Street Fair(s) still pack 'em in, but those are special occasions. Aside from a couple of harnesses in Titan flicks and an assless chap or two on Pride floats, leather seems to have languished as a regular presence in gay life. Yes, we know it's summer and that leather totally doesn't breathe, but if "Sex and the City" taught us anything, it's that suffering for fashion is OK—and that goes double in Manhattan. More »

"Eveready Harton" And The Birth Of Cartoon Smut

People are always asking if we know where to find the world's first porn movie or the world's first nude model or the name of the caveman who invented jerking off. Obviously, we are much too young and spry to be able to recall such ancient history, but there are folks out there who know where to find such hidden gems. These intrepid internet explorers have tracked down what is believed to be the first pornographic cartoon, "Eveready Harton in Buried Treasure." Made in the 1920s by (allegedly) the same animators who created family favorites for Max Fleischer and Walt Disney, it's the heartwarming tale of a man and his giant penis just looking for a little satisfaction in a harsh and cruel world. Who says cartoons are just childish fun?

Even though this "blog" post is about the length of a novella, it does have some interesting stories from the glorious history of porn in San Diego. Is this why everyone is always reminding them to stay classy? (sandiegoreader.com, via adultfyi.com)

Sex And Videogames: An (Even Briefer!) History

Anyone who's spent any amount of time reading Fleshbot over the years knows that the relationship between sex and videogames has always occupied a special place in our, uh, hearts (and we totally have the callouses on our thumbs to prove it!) If you want to school yourself on the illustrious (and not-so-illustrious) history of pixelated T&A and don't feel like browsing our entire archives, however, you could do a lot worse than watch this amusing and informative semi-animated documentary which packs a surprising amount of material into its nine minutes, and makes a strong case for exploring and celebrating sexuality in the development of gaming as an art form. (OK, so there's not much by way of actual pixelated T&A; afraid you'll have to dip into our archives for that after all.)

How Hippies Uncovered The Human Body (Including The Odors)

Did you watch Part One of VH1's "Sex: The Revolution" documentary last night? Or are you simply relying on us to feed you bite-sized clips that will allow you to somehow absorb the meaning and context of the 20th century's sexual revolution all your own? (Hey, it's worth a shot.) If you watch tonight, you'll get more insight into the swinging single lifestyle, how birth control forever changed the landscape of wild, unprotected fucking, and how the dirty, smelly hippies are responsible for the whole thing. We just knew that somehow we'd be able to blame everything on them.

Studio 54: Looking Back At Sex, Drugs, And Disco

The days of disco were a wild time, full of dancing, drugs, and — of course — lots of sex. Or at least, that's what we've heard. We're a little too young to actually remember the heady days of Studio 54, but lucky for us VH1's Rock Doc "Sex: The Revolution" (finally) premieres tonight and for the next four days, we'll be sure to get our fill of all the sleazy hot history we can handle. Below, find out why people are still talking about New York's legendary nightclub thirty years later.

A Swinging Good Time At The Sandstone Retreat: Another Look Back

Being a nudist is nothing new. And from what we can tell, taking it off at the Sandstone Retreat was a lot more interesting than all these nakations we've been hearing about lately. VH1 takes a penetrating look at what it was like to get naked—and get busy—with friends, neighbors, and perfect strangers back in the good old days of the groovy sexual revolution. We've got more hot historical action below, from VH1's Rock Doc "Sex: The Revolution," a four part series premiering this Monday. What this doc has to do with rock escapes us, but we can never get enough video of swingers from the '70s. Just a chance to see all that hair makes it worth a look. More »

The Spermathon: A Look Back

Back in the 1970's, an ambitious porn star named Tara Alexander sought to make history: in the cleverly named "Spermathon", held at famed New York City sex club Plato's Retreat, she announced that she would get it on with a then-record breaking 86 men in one night. (Sure, that record might have been long surpassed since then, but we still get tired just thinking about it!) Did she succeed? Was she able to walk afterwards? And where did they find all those men? Find out the answers to these burning questions (and many, many more) in VH1's latest Rock Doc "Sex: The Revolution," a four part series premiering this Monday. Clip after the jump.

A Hoax, You Say? Guess what? That "new" Marilyn Monroe sex tape? Probably not real! And the guy who claims to have sold it may be just a self-absorbed name dropper who likes the attention. Stunning, isn't it? We know that you're hurt and confused by all these dastardly lies, but try not to let it ruin your faith in celebrity sex tapes. (Defamer)

East Germany's Military Porn Factory Had Ways Of Making You Fap

Researchers combing through the Cold War era files of the East German secret police in Berlin have uncovered a startling new secret about the military powerhouse that struck fear into the hearts of Western Europeans for decades—they loved their porn. In fact, they didn't just watch it ... they made it! Lots of it. Even though porn was officially outlawed under the Communist regime, in the 1980s an army base in Biesdorf became a de facto porn studio with over 160 East German soldiers and officers directing, shooting and even starring in hardcore porn films that were shown at parties for the Army's top brass. But now their dirty secret is out, and German TV has even broadcast a few scenes (clips please, German readers!) proving that the German Democratic Republic (which was neither Democratic nor a Republic; discuss) was better at spying on its people than fucking them. But was it better than "Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS?" We're going to need more double agents to know for sure.

A Brief History Of Boobs

The internet is the perfect place for people with high tech machinery and lots of time on their hands to thrive by throwing together perfectly pointless, but highly entertaining visual fare. This video retrospective on this history of boobs, from our ape-like ancestors down the latest Britney Spears album cover, may not be chronologically accurate or even that well made, but it does contain an impressive amount of bare breasts for just one 60-second video. Watch and see if your favorite hooters made the cut! More »

Vintage Girly Magazines: Now In Blog Form!

We're a little annoyed at our father right now, because we just got another painful reminder of how he neglected us ... by failing to save all the useless crap from his childhood that would be super valuable today. No baseball cards, no stamps, no G.I. Joe dolls in their original unopened packaging. It's like he wasn't even thinking of us (or our eBay accounts) at all! Outside of a few random Playboy's, he couldn't even be bothered to save any classic smut from those bygone days. Fortunately, some of his generation showed a little more foresight and passed down those long forgotten, but still quite entertaining porn rags from the 1950s and '60s.

Christopher Columbus not only brought war, oppression and the ravages of smallpox with him when he "discovered" America—he also invented syphilis! (Well, sorta. His sailors took the mutated, sexually transmitted form of the bug back to Europe.) And you thought that not getting mail delivered on his birthday was annoying ... (yahoo.com)
