The main star of "Burn" is, of course, La Jenna, who is featured here having actual sex with former hubby Justin Sterling along with a pile of her beautiful costars ... that is, when she's not getting spanked and flogged by them too. The film (and yes, did we mention that it was actually shot on film?) also stars new mom Taylor Rain getting the fucking of her young life from Evan Stone; the sorely missed Lauren Phoenix in a powerful pairing with Mr. Marcus; the fondly remembered Cytheria squirting up a storm; and a Sapphic interlude wherein Stephanie Swift and Fleshbot Crush Object Justine Joli lap away at Jenna’s famous privates.

Of course, there are a few porn insiders we know who have seen so many stills from this flick already that they've practically committed them to memory. But they're still pretty hot to us—and we hope they will be for you too. We recently sat down with Joe Swanberg to ask him a few questions about the series: you'll find his answers, a preview clip from YAB's third season, and an exclusive preview gallery after the jump.

Fleshbot: What was the inspiration for "Young American Bodies"?
Joe Swanberg: I made a film called KISSING ON THE MOUTH that detailed the relationships of some young people in Chicago. I felt like I had more to learn and more that I was interested in exploring within that framework, so I pitched the show idea to Nerve. I had wanted to make a web series for a few years at that point, and it seemed like a really good fit with what Nerve was already doing.

FB: How did you recruit the cast? Was it difficult finding actors who were comfortable with the nature of the show?
JS: I make the show with my wife, Kris, and we spent a few weeks meeting with people and putting the cast together. Some of them were already friends of ours and most of the other people we met through MySpace. We posted bulletins explaining what we were trying to do and there were a few people who were interested. Once we found the right people, we worked with them to develop the show around their own lives and stories. Now that we have a few seasons online, it's easier to find people to be in the show, because they know what to expect. We are always looking for new cast members, so people should email me if they are interested.

FB: What's been your favorite episode?
JS: At this point we have made 32 episodes and I can no longer pick a favorite. My favorite relationship in the show is between Maggie and Ted. They are such a weird couple, but they somehow make sense. They break up in Season 2, but we brought Ted back for the new season because we all liked his character so much. A New York actor named Karl Jacob plays that part and he cracks all of us up. We bring him to Chicago just to do the show.

FB: Has switching from Nerve to IFC.com changed the direction or content in any way?
JS: Both websites have been really amazing about giving us total creative freedom with the show. It's a risky series to get behind, so it feels very nice to have both of these respected sites helping us find an audience.

FB: After "Young American Bodies," think you'll have any interest in shooting porn? If you did go in that direction, what kind of porn would you make?
JS: I would definitely be interested in shooting a porn, just to see what it's like. I would have to find the right actors to work with. That is the only thing that would make it interesting to me. If I made a porn, it would inevitably be just like my other films, full of conversations, awkward moments, long takes, minimal lighting, etc. Once again, if the right people are out there, please email me.

They may not make movies like they used to, but they can certainly get away with a lot more explicit action these days. For example, you (or more likely, your parents) may love to break out the hankies for 1955's "The End of the Affair," but the Hayes' Code-hampered Deborah Kerr and Van Johnson could never have matched the wall-crumbling fuck session that Julianne Moore and Ralph Fiennes engaged in the 1999 version. (Oh, wait those are falling German bombs.) Even porn movies get wilder with the passage of time (see "Devil in Miss Jones" or the 5,000 "Debbie Does Something" reiterations), but Nerve decided to look at the mainstream films that got a second life and compare how their bedroom antics changed. Of course, the newer versions don't always win for hotness, but there still must be one or two sexual situations in your own life where you wish you could have had a re-shoot. Or at least a stunt double?

We'd describe it as what might happen if the Brothers Quay directed a Vivid flick, filtered through equal parts steampunk and Spanish Fly—and the fact that Sullivan modeled one of his robot creations on Goddess Debbie Harry (who he photographed for underground magazines back in the 70s) is a nice bonus for us pop culture junkies too. You'll never consider the phrase "soulless, mechanical fucking" in quite the same way again.

Culled from the work of several lesser-known experimental and documentary filmmakers by curator Noel Lawrence (and fresh from well-received screenings at the Cinekink and LA Erotic Film festivals), "Xperimental Eros" is a grab bag of shorts that use found porn footage and sex culture as jumping-off points for all sorts of interesting (and occasionally trippy) cinematic expression.

We were especially taken by "Sneakin' and Peekin'", Tom Palazzolo's 1976 filmic raid on an Indiana nudist camp (which reminded us that women did indeed used to have pubic hair in the days before Brazilians became endemic in the porn world) and by the more agressively experimental works by Mark Street ("Blue Movie"), Naomi Ulman ("Removed"), and Peggy Ahwesh ("The Color Of Love") in which vintage stag reels and grainy Euro smut loops are cut up, reworked, and thrown back together again with various effects that recall the work of avant guard filmmakers like Stan Brakhage and Maya Deren. And it's all presented with a short but informative essay by UC Berkeley film studies professor Linda WIlliams and a bonus score by San Francisco's own PornOrchestra. (The emphatic Bay Area-centricity of the project shouldn't come as too much of a surprise; somehow we don't think that most Porn Valley directors are likely to produce a hand-manipulated film stock feature starring two women having sex on top of a dead guy while a string quartet plays in the background. At least not yet.)

So while it might not be the first thing you reach for when you're planning a quiet evening at home with Rosie Palm and her five sisters, "Xperimental Eros" is well worth picking up if you have even a passing interest in the ways that porn can indeed be transformed into Serious Art with the right sort of editing. And at the very least, it's worth having on hand for your next party in case you need to distract your guests from the fact that you ended up burning the rumaki after all.

For two days, the LA Knitting Factory (clearly unaware that inviting porn people into their venerable establishment meant 48 hours of flashbulb-popping, boob-baring antics) turned three rooms into film screening areas and panel presentation spaces. All levels of mainstream — and a heavy handful of indy — porn peeps invaded to talk about themselves, which, of course, no one can get enough of.

The film fest portion ran the gamut from Porn Valley panelists to independent erotic filmmakers and artists giving a taste of the wider range of international, experimental and truly transgressive films and animation. Few outside the Valley were in effect; much of the fest showcased what I already knew about. But instead of the the mind-numbing fan fest of the AVN Expo, LAEFF '07 focused more on the porn (and its making) than the stars themselves (though the usual signings and industry trailers were fully represented, yo).

Films shown were in a range of actually exciting categories. "Artrotica" included new work by Martha Colburn, R. Kern, Bruce LaBruce, Eon McKai and Nick Zedd. The Best of CineKink NYC was a delightful collection of seven excellent shorts, including the yummy Honey and Bunny; I loved their inclusion of the biting but hilarious mockumentary "Dick Ho: Asian Male Porn Star". There were erotic comedy film shorts; an "Eroticore" clip collection with a 20-minute "Not Another Porn Movie" entry by Joanna Angel; a teensy bit of retro clips and more. We were especially excited to see San Francisco's Other Cinema represented in "Xperimental Eros", a collection of experimental shorts curated by Noel Lawrence featuring works by Craig Baldwin, Mike Kuchar, Sam Green and Bill Morrison.

Like any tech conference that features panels of old media makers and mini-celebs alongside the new media mavericks — and a smattering of artists and writers throughout — some of the panels excited and inspired, while others fell flat into porn's recurrent Navel Gazing Syndrome. Ron Jeremy made an early exit for another engagement, noted by another tattooed blogger through an unmuffled yawn; a panel of MSM porn performers were quoted for memorable quips such as "I just can't get enough of my job!" and "I don't have a thought," and confusingly, the panel actually stopped to point out a porn performer walking through the room to cue audience applause (applauding Joanna Angel, which we usually do with one hand, thank you very much).

That "Classics" panel was deliciously bitter by the end of its self-congratulatory session, and based on reports from embedded sources another panel of similar minds had degenerated into discussions of what kind of car they drove. Other panels showed filmmakers and artists hungry to reach new audiences with thought-provoking images, and — yes — even hot erotica. Old punks brought new values, and new online pornstars and rulers of MySpace like Dana DeArmond shaped longstanding discussions about who really looks at all this smut, anyway.

In all, the panels gave a nice snapshot of the state of SoCal tinged porn when it's rubbed up against the rest of the world's smut; the internal struggle the Old Guard is having when the internets are breaking down the walls between porn and its consumers; and what's happening when old-style porn distribution channels are becoming less and less the arbiters of content. Plus, seeing all that art porn, new features from indy artists and even the scary premiere of "Llik Your Idols" made us all quivery about porn, all over again. For a minute, anyway.
