What kind of person remakes a groundbreaking, influential porn film a mere five years after its release? The same person who first thought to set a porno at an art school populated by tattooed, pierced alt girls: Eon McKai.

Yes, "Art School Girls are Easy" is a "remake" of the seminal pomo porn "Art School Sluts." Is it a brilliant twist on porn's relentless reinvention of the same topic? Is it a nostalgic cry for a simpler time? Is it a sign that Eon McKai is just completely out of ideas? We're still puzzling all that through—but we can say for certain that it's a pretty hot film.

Fans of the original will be familiar with the structure of this release: the opening car crash segues into a girl-girl scene with Kasha Bella and Pixie Pearl, a trip to art school results in Pixie and Daniel getting it on in front of the class (while Kasha takes photos, natch), Kasha and Stevie Hart seduce Vin Vericose into a threeway, Andy San Dimas and Daniel giggle their way through dialogue and get down to the fucking, and—last but not least—Kasha seduces Dane Cross, who's stopped going to art school in favor of doing drugs.

When "Art School Sluts" hit the scene, it was hailed as groundbreaking, revolutionary, and influential—and truly, a porn unlike any other that had come before. Five years later, "Art School Girls are Easy" doesn't have the same impact: quite literally, we have seen something like this before.

So if you strip away the novelty and the newness, what's left of the girls of "Art School"? Hot sex, for one: Pixie Pearl and Andy San Dimas give knockout performances, the now retired (and much missed!) Stevie Hart takes a walk on the B/G/G side, and newcomer Kasha Bella proves that she has what it takes to fill shoes of the original Mia, Keiko.

And at the end of the day, isn't that what matters most?

One often wonders what an artist would do, if they had the chance to do it all over again. Perhaps Eon McKai is giving us his answer: he would have used more Pixie Pearl.

It's Just "Content"—But It's Really Hot

Eon McKai has said that his latest feature "Content" is altporn's answer to the recession. We'd offer, additionally, that it's Eon McKai's answer to gonzo porn.

"It's just content," we (and the performers) are repeatedly told. Translation: this is just stripped down sex. There's no plot, there's no "meaning," there are no grand conceits (well, aside from the general conceit of this being a stripped down, bare bones, sex-only release, which is certainly played up knowingly). Granted, this is not just another gonzo release: Eon's signature style is ever present. Even when it's just "content," it's style Eon's content.

So how does Eon's work fair when it's nothing but content? Quite well, actually. Eon elicits stellar performances from each and every cast member: from the almost-possessed Kimberly Kane, who shot "Content" after a month of no sex; to the playfully rough Madison Young and Dane Cross; to the top-notch final scene featuring Kitty "Meow" McMuffin and Sherwood getting rough and nasty with each other.

The sex in this release tends towards the rougher end of the spectrum: spanking and slapping abound, and there's a bit of namecalling and cockchoking thrown into the mix (the violence is not solely directed towards the female cast members, however: some of you will no doubt be pleased to learn that Madison Young gives Dane Cross's face a nice, hard slap). But unlike some releases, where this kind of affectation seems put on, a bit of a performance, most everything we see in "Content" feels extremely real.

There are a few moments throughout the film—particularly in the scene between Kimberly Kane and Mr. Pete—where it almost seems as though the performers have forgotten the camera. In those moments, where it feels like the performers are fucking more for themselves than for us, there's a true bit of porn greatness. It may be just "content"—but it's achieved a level of intimacy most porn only dreams of.

"Attack of the Staph Spider" tells the tale of a porn shoot that gets derailed when one of the lovely starlets gets bit by the mysterious and menacing staph spider during a smoke break. True, it's more of a short than a feature, and more horror than hardcore—but it's got enough girls and gore to both turn your stomach and titillate. Back To The Future: Hustler's "Alt Chicks Fuck Better"

We’re not usually big fans of compilation DVDs here at Fleshbot: chances are if you missed something the first time around it's not worth watching when it gets repackaged with other similarly forgettable scenes for a quickie comp release. But given their ubiquity in the porn marketplace they're hard to ignore, and in these days of video sharing sites some companies have taken to raiding their own faults and adding never-before-scene clips to these collections to make them more attractive. And then there's Hustler's new "tribute" to alt porn, "Alt Chicks Fuck Better".

Given the fact that most alt performers, directors, and fans look for the new and unusual in their product, we're wondering whether Hustler was trying to alienate their target audience by rereleasing a bunch of clips that most alt fans—and especially we here at Fleshbot—were already pretty familiar with. (Or maybe serious alt fans were never the target audience for this comp to begin with?) Still, upon closer examination the DVD proves to serve up an interesting slice of porn history-in-the-making for those who might have ignored or overlooked it the first time around. So maybe it's unfair to dismiss it outright, even if it’s just a crass attempt on Hustler's part to cash in on something some would argue they never really understood from day one.

"Alt Chicks Fuck Better" features several moments from the altporn movement just as it was starting to take on the porn mainstream, and as such it samples from such seminal works as Eon McKai's "Art School Sluts" and the three volumes of his "Kill Girl Kill" series and maverick director Joe Gallant's "Avenue X". Among the several scenes you'll find a younger Rob Rotten carnally indoctrinating Yumi before going on to take on an anti-alt stance with his Punx Productions, and a fresh-faced Kimberly Kane when she was just an insatiable sex goddess and not yet one of our favorite directors (and insatiable sex goddess).

So really, all that’s missing to make this more of a documentary are interviews and consent. No matter what your personal take on altporn is, "Alt Chicks Fuck Better" is worthwhile as an abbreviated primer of a pornographic revolution that may best be remembered for having been co-opted by what it was originally intended to destroy. Then again, part of us thinks that you should already own most of the films it samples already, and why would you need to add another disk to your collection? Fleshbot Crush Object turned director extraordinaire (though she's still remained a crush object) Kimberly Kane and altporn majordomo Eon McKai threw a party this week at South Hollywood's Beauty Bar for the release of Kane's latest grungy orgy of opulent dissidence for Vivid Alt, "Morphine". The festivities included an onsite makeup artist who dispensed colorfully bloody black eyes to guests who later participated in the first ever (that we know of) Black Eye Beauty Pageant, gloriously emceed by Kane who declared it a testament to how delightfully white trash her new release is. Seriously, how can you not love this girl?

Altporn princess and noted tentacle canoodler Mandy Morbid took home the tiara amidst applause from the crowd, outshining such luminaries as art star (and boyfriend!) Zak Smith and fellow Fleshbot fantasy gal April Flores. Plucky emo upstart-turned-media magnate Eon McKai regaled a small but dedicated gathering of erotic counterculture types and fellow oligarchs on a chilly spring evening in opulent Highland Park last night at a party celebrating the release of his foray into post-Marxist pornography, "The Doll Underground". You could have been there too, but you probably weren't; see what you missed after the jump.

Despite the exhortations to "rise up" contained in the title being feted, those present at "The Doll Underground" release party seemed to openly mock the very suggestion of class warfare and sexual redistribution of capital as they nibbled on truffled foie gras and quaffed liberally from Waterford crystal flacons of 1995 Chateau Margaux. After showing up to the party in his custom Hummer stretch limousine, McKai exerted a Svengali-like hold on starlets Lexi Belle and Reagan Maddux throughout the evening, never allowing reporters to approach them directly and openly dictating their responses to them instead.

Also spotted at the gala were such prominent members of Old Los Angeles society as Ed Fox, Dave Naz, Ashley Blue, Zack Sabbath, Mandy Morbid, Kimberly Kane, Carlos Batts, and April Flores, all of whom listened in rapt attention as McKai described the splendor of his new palatial estate in Cap d'Antibes while feeding mouthfuls of gold leaf-encrusted cake to three or four waifish models inked from head to toe in "rebellious" tattoos and splayed at his feet. Later, after a shower of $1000 bills descended from the ceiling of the Little Cave upon the heads of the delighted guests, a Vivid Alt-branded personal helicopter spirited him away from the festivities. What will he think of next?

When we say that you might forget that you're watching a dirty movie during the first several minutes of Eon McKai's new hallucinatory agitporn masterpiece "The Doll Underground" — all recycled stock footage and fuzzy credits and screeching filmstrip soundtrack — that's meant as a compliment; McKai has never made porn movies that look like anyone else's, and while there's something to be said for the straight-up smut style of your typical gonzo production, that's probably not why you watch one of his films in the first place. So even if "The Doll Underground" isn't likely to win over any existing alt-haters to his camp, we think it's the best example yet of why McKai remains one of the most singular and distinctive artists working in the adult industry today.

Early reports about the movie, which has been over a year in the making, described it as a story about tutu-clad suburban Gothic hotties being recruited for some sort of anti-capitalist terrorist cell. That's true enough, we guess, though the finished project is a lot more disjointed and impressionistic than that: if "The Doll Underground" is "about" anything, it's that sex is as much about power as it is about pleasure, maybe even more so. From our eminent colleague Violet Blue's five-star review:

Pulsing with energy, eerie visuals, clever pacing and deliberate editing, the film is a haiku telling the story of five young women tired of being controlled by society ("buy nothing" is repeated as a mantra) who emulate a mashup of the Weather Underground and Patty Hearst's SLA ideals. They band together in the Belmont Tunnel in Los Angeles under the direction of uber-sexy goth Lorna Adorn (Pixie Pearl), create and distribute anti-capitalist and anti-conformity propaganda (podcasts and screenprint pasteup art), build bombs and make things go boom ... Visually and throughout the delivery of the minimalistic story arc, it plays like a long, gorgeous, lush yet also somehow dark, saturated but bleak music video.
(... ) I wonder, did The Doll Underground *actually* come from porn valley? There are no blondes, no long fingernails, no fake breasts, no skinny girls, no big boobs, no fake female orgasms. The soundtrack never interrupts the sex; the sounds of sex are the focus. The women's bodies look like regular *hot* girls; the have ass, thigh, meat on those bones that make you want to cuddle and fuck and snuggle. Half the cast, at most, is tattooed; many are pierced, and two of the men are uncut. There are no unsafe or scary sex acts; no anal, no "gapes" and thankfuckinggawd no ATMs. The negative? People still wear white belts.

But let's talk about the sex; the mood is disaffected, the visuals dream-like, but the sex is riveting. Besides Pixie's solo masturbation scene (a Goth dream come true), the performers do not acknowledge the camera during sex scenes — with one deliberate exception. Outside of sex, the performers have direct viewer "eye contact" as part of the narrative. The storytelling is for the viewer; for the sex we are but voyeurs. The editing is tight yet deliberate.

(... ) The Doll Underground is one of the best porn films I've ever seen, and it feels like anti-porn — it's almost against the system it came from by being all that it is — a deep investigation of culture from an industry we regard as being utterly bereft of culture beyond the superficial. Rise up, indeed. Highly recommended.

We couldn't have said it better ourselves, except maybe to add that "The Doll Underground" is one of those rare porn movies that we find ourselves watching as much for the interstitial parts and high style as for the fucking itself ... although once we remember how hot the fucking is, we find ourselves wanting to fast forward to that again too. It might not be everyone's cup of dirt pipe milkshake, but if you're looking for an utterly original porn experience that'll leave you with something more than just a sticky feeling in your pants, "The Doll Underground" is the place to be. Anti-capitalist gothic Lolitas never looked so good.

Dave Naz's "L.A. Bondage" Book Signing

DCypher reports: Last night a small army of dedicated fans swarmed Los Angeles's Book Soup for a book signing to celebrate fetish photographer Dave Naz. Usually authors don't treat drooling fans to live bondage performances, but considering the title of his latest is "L.A. Bondage" it seemed appropriate: Damon Pierce and fetish supermodel Claire Adams, who did all the rigging for the book, entertained onlookers with a fact-based demonstration using vintage rope and good old fashioned knot work.

Nadia Styles, Dana DeArmond, Mary Jane, and Flower Tucci were just a handful of the models who were on hand to sign copies; Adam and Eve contract starlet Ava Rose also dropped in to pay her regards, as did Digital Playground's newest addition, Stoya. Eric Kroll, Faria, and Carlos Batts (along with his "Voluptuous Life" star April Flores) were some of the other photographers who made the event. Also spotted were alt porn auteur Eon McKai, Jane Hamilton, Maria Menendez, Malachi, and AVN's Peter Warren.

The scene saw gaggles of Silverlake hipsters milling about, snapping photos, collecting signatures, and sipping wine while slivers of cold rain pelted the panes and steamed up the windows.
