We have to admit that we weren't very charitable when we posted about Florida-based erotic visionary Philip Mond's "Insexts" last year—but really, it's hard to take porn seriously when the performers are fucking and sucking while wearing giant day-glo bug costumes. Things are somewhat less "Animal Planet"-ish in Mond's newest production "Sinema", starring bombshells Chloe Dior and Mond's real-life partner Gina Mond, no longer hiding her light under a paper-mache cephalothorax ... though a 200-pound python is also part of the cast. The preview looks as hot as any Porn Valley production we've seen lately and everything seems directed with a commendable gloss and polish, but we can't help feeling like there's something missing. Rob Rotten's porn setups—the reason why people are having sex in the first place—are as high concept as anyone's. But Rotten eschews cable guys, pool cleaners, and pizza delivery dudes. Instead, he begins by dressing his female performers in 80's New Wave slutwear and presents motivations like "Someone is watching you urinate and you get angry. Angry enough to have sex with them."

First off, none of these girls actually has scurvy, though the ill-lit bathrooms featured in the movie are reminiscent of 19th century sailing ships. And Rotten's Nadsat boxcover introduction ("packed to the ol' gulliver with splendid Molodoy devotchkas") also sends the wrong message. But not one of the performers in "Scurvy Girls 2" seems out of place in her surroundings, which is more than you can say for various pirate movies.

The person below is not the same as the person above. Am I racist if I think all punk girls look the same?

Remember, it's not Porn Valley's version of altporn if the viewer can detect the performer's personal investment.

Usually we find porn that features things like slow-motion editing and creative camera techniques the kind of stuff that's more interesting to write about that it is to, you know, actually jerk off to. Lee and Patrick, former friends who fell out, resulting in Lee's dismissal from the company, encountered each other outside Hollywood's Forbidden City night club, where Tera was about to host an awards show.

Lee claims Patrick's company still owes her money, and that her non-compete agreement prohibited her from working. Non-compete agreements in any industry are terrifically difficult to enforce, but the porn world is strange, and it is possible that Tera's reputation alone was enough to keep Lee from working. In the wake of the scrape, performer Nikki Benz also said Tera treated her poorly.

Lee and Patrick had a shouting match which led to a mutual tossing of drinks, which may or may not be copyright infringement. Sources say Lee was the first to toss a drink.

Teravision issued a statement today denying wrongdoing.

We disagree with the allegations that Ms. Lee is owed money, and we certainly disagree with her fabrications as to what took place at the awards show. If Ms. Lee believes she is owned money, the proper way to address that would be to call our offices. She has never raised any such issues in the past- it is interesting, and questionable that she chooses to do so now in the press, on the heels of Ms. Benz's unfounded allegations. It is unfortunate that these two have seemingly "paired up" to try and spread a negative smear campaign- we are not sure what their motivation may be, but we have no doubt that soon we will learn where their intentions are.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, John Bowen, aka porn director John T. Bone, was arrested along with Kyle Mark Micgram, a director for Hustler, in Pattaya City. The pair had set up a studio in an apartment where police found images of the Buddha in every corner, which they allege would be seen "in every frame" of porn movies the pair would make.

The police further allege that Bone and Micgram used prostitutes and "katueys" (transvestites or transsexuals) in the creation of the films and an accompanying website.

Bowen argued that he was not the only person in Thailand doing what he was arrested for, but the police didn't consider that sufficient reason to let him go. Bowen's website says that "rumors of my incarceration are are (sic) greatly exaggerated".

"A date that begins with 'Exterminating Angels,' Jean-Claude Brisseau's suave and salacious new movie, is likely to end up either in bed or in court." So begins A.O. Scott's review of the controversial film which opens today in Manhattan after stirring up its due share of brouhaha during its premiere in Cannes last year and which is shaping up to be this year's "9 Songs" or "Shortbus" in terms of depicting explicit sex in the context of an arthouse film release—though you'd never know it from the trailer, which is all subtitles and shadowy glimpses of whispery, heaving flesh. Stll, as Scott points out in his review, it's the rare instance of mainstream cinema that was presented with a 2257 compliance certificate at the critics' screening. Just don't expect anything along the lines of, say, "Dirt Pipe Milkshakes". This is a French arthouse film, after all.

If you want to know what pornstar and fetish model-turned-directrix Renee Pornero and her Vienna-based Six Inch Snails collective are all about, look no farther than the mission statement on their website: " We are young, creative and full of beans. His low budget, made-on-a-Mac movies are little works of unaffected, earnest, painstaking art in which beauty, humor, regret, boobies, and creepiness vie for the viewer's attention.

"You just have that tragic look that just translates so well," Clark says to Tami Lynn at the beginning of this compilation. As offstage gonzo director dialogue, that works a hell of a lot better than "Fuck. You've got great tits." While emotion has overwhelmed me to often utter the latter, good porn deserves more of the former.

"I pretty much almost never make a mistake," says Lynn, about to be taken aback by Clark standby Mr. Marcus. Longtime partner in crime Brian Surewood also makes a few appearances.

"Then what are you doing here?" Clark asks. The movie (full title: Dreaming of Snow: The Best of David Aaron Clark's Existential AZN Girl Gonzo) is chock full of unsanitized moments between an older man and the much younger women he photographs, sometimes in his apartment in L.A.'s Koreatown but also in swankier, less-realistic places, like Beverly Hills. Clark is unabashed in his affection for these women, talking to them like he can't believe his luck but also that he will go to Hell for it.

This puts the women at ease, humanizes them. Sometimes it freaks them out.

Conversations with his subjects paint an accurate picture of the parasitic side of the adult industry.

"You have no idea how ambitious I am," Clark is told by Kylie Rey. "I will do just about anything for money."

"I support entrepreneurship 100 percent," Clark responds. He later persuades her to scoop ice cream out of her vagina. She really is ambitious. He asks her if she's a Republican.

In alternating scenes, we see performers having fun or cashing a check.

"Are you looking forward to getting fucked?" Clark asks Heidi Ho, owner of the Best Asian Porn Name Ever (other than Hoochie Maguchi).

"I guess," she says.

"I guess?"

Later Mr. Marcus advises Kammy to throw her arms up in the air and shout "I wanna be a star" as he fucks her. She does. That scene should definitely adorn the promotional material for the Porn Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Through it all - as it is through most of Clark's gonzo movies - his plummy basso profundo resonates offscreen like he's a member of the World's Seamiest Barbershop Quartet.

You might see some contradictions in this site's coverage of what we call the Gonzo Gaze. Some directors batter the talent and assault their audience with their boorish commentary. The impression I'm left with is that, for those directors, the movie is about them. For Clark it's about the performers, even if he's the one getting the blowjob.

If you didn't know any better, you might think that first-time feature filmmaker Anna Biller's story of a swinging 70s housewife's sexual awakening was an actual lost movie by the likes of Russ Meyer or Radley Metzger. But Biller's "cult freak-out retro 1970's spectacle" is a wholly modern confection, one that's at least as notable for its period-perfect attention to set detail and costumes (the work of the director herself) as for its plot: "Barbi becomes a Red Riding Hood in a sea of wolves, and quickly learns a lot more than she wanted to about the different kinds of scenes going on in the wild '70's, including nudist camps, the hippie scene, orgies, bisexuality, sadism, drugs, and bohemia ... Whether you're looking for naked people dancing, alcoholic swingers, stylish sex scenes, a sea of polyester, Hammond organ jams, glitzy show numbers, white horses, blondes in the bathtub, gay hairdressers, or psychedelic animation, VIVA has it all!" We might have been more tuned in to "Sesame Street" than suburban sex orgies at the time, but thanks to Biller we can relive all that sexy 70s grooviness all over again ... for the first time.
