@snoopgrand Bravo sir for the defense of Drew. I agree with you wholeheartedly and those who think Dr. Drew is some media whoring fake, you just don't get it. What was hard to watch on this show was that surfer douche. Spicoli to the 9th power! I love how when he's around Penny he's like "I better leave the room, could get into trouble." All of this is assuming he'd even have a SHOT at PennyJennie Flame! He's so goddamned expectant. He's making a big spectacle of himself, which with reality TV you don't need to help it along. It's easy to nail surfer chicks. All you need is some schwag, blonde hair, and say "brah" alot. #pennyflame
Hopefully that segment was the douchiest of the program; otherwise, I salute the editors for watching it for us, but the show looks like torture. #pennyflame
I hate Dr. Drew. Anytime I listen to his help calls/videos/what have you, it seems like he puts too much of his personal beliefs into his treatments. Just because you don't like something as a Doctor, that doesn't mean you should specifically tell someone not to do it. You can say things like 'It's not something I would do, but it there's no danger in it...' or 'I'm personally not a fan, but professionally it's up to you...' etc... but just because you don't do it, doesn't mean its wrong for someone else.
I'm glad that my father is a Doctor, so I can see that not all Doctors are like Dr. Drew. I've had a good experience with Doctors, overall, because of how I grew up. Based on that, and watching Dr. Drew work, I'm confident in saying he's a dick. #pennyflame
@Conrad: Dr. Drew never tells people what to do. EVER. I listen to his show every night.
What he says is, "Do what you want, everybody", but don't tell me it's healthy, when I see drug addicts and sex addicts everyday feed me that bullshit".
Is your father an addiction medicine specialist, like Drew?
Does he treat thousands upon thousands of addicts in their addiction?
The problem with our society today, and I agree with Drew 100% on this is that a lot of the more "liberal" people have been trying to convince us for the past 40 years that a lot of the dysfunctional things they do is completely perfectly normal and healthy, even when it is not, and when anybody says that it's not normal or healthy, they say, "How dare you judge me, because I like smoking crack and being a prostitute"!!!
You can delude yourselves, but not the rest of society.
@Lux Alptraum: Well that's good. I don't actually believe in physical addiction to sex. It's more like marijuana addiction, than heroin (in my opinion). If she ends up feeling better about herself after all of this, that's really all that matters. #pennyflame
@Conrad: I don't think sex itself is addicted, but I think that emotional/psychological issues can create an unhealthy relationship with intimacy. #pennyflame
@Lux Alptraum: That I can agree with. Being the case, it needs to be called something other than addiction. It most likely is called something else in the medical community, it's probably just the medias ignorance of science and medicine that fuels the abuse of the term. #pennyflame
@TristanTaormino: If that's the case [i.e. that she does not suffer from sex addiction, yet is participating in a celebrity program focused on the rehabilitation of sex addicts], might I surmise that she would then appear to be exploiting a (possibly) legitimate psychological and/or physiological illness to increase her mainstream exposure and bank account?
@Prof_Derzshowitz: You know what, because it's reality TV (and therefore exploitative almost by its very nature), I don't think I have a problem with that.
As an addendum... yes, we all like to fuck--some of us more than others--but I think sex addicts are those whose lives are consumed with getting sex (much like a drug or alcohol addict).
There's nothing wrong with wanting to fuck or masturbate a whole lot, it's just when the desire to do so starts becoming a detrimental force in your life.
@PCBHo: @hodayathink is looking for a white 20-something porn actress who loves 70s R&B: @Lux Alptraum: I would agree with PCB's and Lux's assertion that a habit becomes an addiction/obsession once it begins to affect your life in some negative way, though I don't think addictions necessarily "endanger" oneself or others, (although they can obviously escalate to that type of harmful level).
Personally, I think that there is validity to the concept of sex/porn addiction, or, (at the very least), of the observation that some people engage in what could be termed sex-related "binge-ing." But the fact that our own overwhelmingly powerful sexual impulses are complicated by biology, that much of our sex drive comes from an evolutionary imperative to propagate the species, and that widespread social and moral standards and prejudices concerning individual sexual activities are deeply entrenched in North American society, makes it particularly difficult for this issue to be examined objectively.
How I understand addiction is that it's having a negative impact on your life. Didn't Airforce Amy get treatment for sex addiction too? But she really did seem to have a psychological problem.
I'm a little wary of Dr Drew on this topic, as I recall him being very anti-porn on many occasions. Maybe this has changed... And I also have read enough criticism from experts about the actual diagnosis of "sex addition". It is very difficult to claim this is an actual addiction, considering how libidos, appetites to explore and experiment can all vary and I don't feel can be judged or measured by a single moral or standard.
I'm not gonna sit here and say that I didn't see it coming (her being a sex addict, that is), but at least she is in what would be the perfect job for someone addicted to sex.
But if the addiction does put her into dangerous situations, then I hope she gets all the help she needs.
Talks about getting a job at MetroBabes and how very few people are shooting enough to pay the rent. Add that to this (apparently these people get paid in the 5 figure range to do these shows), and things start to make more sense.
