We are so far away from evolving where procreation will be a problem it's not funny. Some have said aliens visit the planet because of that problem, so they go on intergalactic booty runs here.
The only problem is people who think sex is going virtual and two people can cyber with devices and that's going to somehow be like the real thing. People who try are going to get what they deserve, a buzzing rubber hand doing their thing.
Genetically, we're maybe 5 million years away from a problem or a change. Until then we'll be in the same boat.
@Hello_Newman: Procreation will be a problem, but not in the way you think. In the future we will have to slow down procreation, almost bring it to a stop. Because there is only so much room on this planet for people. And with new medicine allowing people to live for much, much longer. If not as long as they like, healthily. It's going to accelerate the need to put a cap on births.
@Hello_Newman: You should seek the meaning for the term "transhumanism" before making that kind of comments. The whole point of transhumanist philosophy is that biological evolution is far too slow and unreliable to be trusted with our further development, and needs to be accelerated with nanoscopic cybernetics and optional genetic manipulation. If the transhuman visions come true, in only few centuries we all have passed the need for genes entirely, having transferred our consciousness to more durable shells that don't suffer from such biological issues as ageing.
Will we have sex then? Why not? I suspect that we'll be doing everything imaginable with our sensory perception and more.
@Lightice: I doubt the durable shell thing will ever come to pass. Because aging isn't something that has to happen to biological creatures. It's merely what currently happens to most.
We will be able to, and are getting quite close to being able to stop age related decay from occurring. It's just a matter of making our self repair systems work properly, replacing dead cells with new ones and keeping DNA from degrading.
@Kakkoii: The problem is that this makes us vulnerable to various forms of cancer, and limits our ability to develop. Immortality as we are just isn't a goal worth having. That's just eternal stagnation, and in practice probably leads to eventual suicide.
There's two options in this world for species, and the goal of transhumanism is to bring them to individuals as well: evolve or die out. As long as we evolve, gain new abilities, new possibilities, life has a meaning for us. But if we stop changing, we'll just get hopelessly bored.
@fxsoap: Oh, we'll get many of these abilities in this century, if the predictions are correct. But humanity as a whole probably won't be a collection of immortal superminds before a few centuries have passed.
@Lightice: Uhh no. The result of perfecting our self repair systems would prevent cancer, not make us vulnerable to it lol. And one would think by this time we would have the technology to prevent cancer anyways.
And I didn't say anything about not improving on ourselves. Just not replacing ourselves with non organic materials completely. Maybe an arm, or a leg or heart. But the brain and skin should stay organic, but still improved on through genetic tinkering.
I think that it'll be much different than any sort of sex we'd recognize. We'll probably just wire our brains in, set phasers to orgasm and never ever get any work done. It'll only be the geezers having it the old fashioned way, but that's only if those damn kids would get off my virtual lawn.
I say that grooming your own "South America jungle" is helpful for both girls and boys. I don't need to lose my lover's face among my out-of-control pubic hair when she goes down on me, so I keep it trimmed. Plus it can be really really sexy!
If only anal sex had been more popular when I was a teen... oh well, I'm making up for lost time now as a grown-up! :)
I recently counseled a college girl whose boyfriend could only climax in a sitting-up position because his only sexual experience up til then was jerking it to Internet porn in front of his computer.
Fear mongering and panic about technology (sexting = kiddie porn on cell phones - oh no!) will happen. Whatever. Internet porn (and technology in general) will inevitably affect teen sex trends (and adults too!), and I'm sure that the same was said when the VCR was made. But what truly matters is that kids learn to respect themselves & others. And that kids need to understand consequences & take responsibility for their actions.

@Conrad: Random sidenote: I'm amused that they're still running with the "boys think pubic hair is gross!" line, even as pubic hair is making a comeback in pornos.
@Lux Alptraum: I don't think it is gross, but i've certainly seen some horrible examples of pubic hair gone wrong.
I will admit that I am all for bare. I don't expect women to do what I won't do, however. Shaving, modeling, anal, etc... equal opportunity all the way.
I like how the poster features a blonde, a brunette, a redhead and a pony. In this time of increasing niche porn, it's refreshing to see a title that tries to appeal to everybody.
I remember when Nerve was actually cool. I learned a lot about sex there. And eventually I outgrew it, as with Playboy before that. They're just not as cool as they think they are.
Now they're not even making the nod to being sexy. Might as well read MAXIM, it's pathetic. They went downhill a long time ago. And their personals? Forget it.
There's just no reason to read Nerve anymore. They may have a new CEO, but I don't see profitability any time soon. Is it so much better for a mainstream company to advertise on a site that has explicit sex stories but no nude pictures than one that has both? Or will the writing disappear too? What are they, Cosmo?
That news about Nerve makes me sad for a few reasons:
1. Because I didn't even know anything about it until -today-.
2. I one day hoped to work for them in some capacity.
They bleeped "breast" -- though not on the closed-caption -- which makes me think the actual term spoken was teat. Still wouldn't make much sense to expunge from the vocal track, but it prolly is somewhat scandalous in the U.S. from disuse.
'The Museum of Sex actually does not have any balloons. They never existed and they never will exist. The ad agency completely fabricated the entire promotion and the exhibition on oral sex. We’re working on getting it recalled.'
I got an invite to a friend's 18th birthday party in the form of a balloon, with the instruction on the envelope in which it arrived being "blow me (up)". This was 1996. Erotic balloons have come far since then.

Hmmm....maybe you didn't see the preview for the movie Surrogates! Soon man, less than 50 years from now, apparently.
