I would hope Naughty America might get a sales boost from the credit in The Wrestler*.
*Still havn't seen it, in full, but have watched the credits. The exceeding "thank you" to Axl Rose is a bit egregious, though; Aaron North & Travis Keller have asked Darren Aranofsky to get a new schtick, one not played out seven years ago.
I was just pondering today if strippers are drawing fewer tips, & (many) fewer private-dances, in this economy. On the one hand, the patrons have less disposable income to commit to the champagne room; on the other, the lack of funds depresses, & a (good) lapdance certainly elevates the mood. I suppose it might depend on the club, then. The smaller mom n' pop nudie bars, with limited space & even more limited potential for tittilation (as one who has been to The Stal's Spotlite Lounge (though thankfully, not since Nov '06) I can speak to the low calibre), are hurting, but the bigger clubs & chains are prolly raking.
I'm down. Did you see that episode of secret confessions of a call girl where she tries to be a dom? I'd be like that only better and blonder. Sign ups around the corner.
@FalconryoftheEroticVariety: I think the Atlantic Monthly article is pretty right on. Porn as we now know it will probably die off, in the same way that all modern media is going to have to adapt and change. But, quite frankly, pornography as a medium isn't going anywhere: if anything, it will probably get better as a result of being forced to adapt.
@Lux Alptraum: I think there will always be a market for media one can put on a shelf, at least as far as this fella is concerned. Whether its music, movies or porn, I hope the market knows that some of us still like to have an actual physical object I can see and touch which contains the music, movie or porn I like!
Ross Douthat has just issued a fatwa against his own employer. Pornography is adultery, he mumbles, then lets fly a string of shoots, frigs, & dangnamits.
That $12 billion number always gets tossed around when journalists discuss the biz... do we still have any clue where the heck that amount comes from, how it was calculated and what it includes?
It might be recession proof, but it's not piracy proof. You can find tons of long videos for free on sites like Red Tube. That is there biggest problem, not a recession.
Looks like a special assignment for San Diego's investigative reporter... Right after that brick is dislodged from his oh, so deserving of being bricked face.
At first, I was really saddened and worried if the whole site might be going down. But then I thought about it, and there's probably a lot of overhead involved in running a studio, and they do at least an equal amount of shooting in rented houses and whatnot, so they can continue shooting (whether or not they will worries me, but I have to be optimistic).

Looks like I was right, and they are cutting costs, but they're not shutting down.
