Mandy Morbid Faces Her Inner Demons In "Hospital"

It’s hard not to think of any porn movie that bills itself as “dark, squalid, and ominous” as missing another adjective: pretentious. But even after struggling our way through the copy that adorns the (rather gorgeous) box cover of "Hospital" along with assorted surgical implements and bloody smears, the only word that describes how director Benny Profane’s new Vivid Alt release makes us feel is excited. Then again, Mandy Morbid always makes us feel that way anyway.

The plot, such as it is, involves Our Mandy being punished for past misdeeds she cannot recall by an evil (and diabolically horny) hospital staff. It seems that Mandy and her con artist boyfriend (played by Fleshbot superhero and Mandy's real-life beau Zak Sabbath) did some Bad Things which earned Mandy a semi-private room in the hospital of the title, where her doctor tells her she's to undergo treatment for being a "drug addict and a sexual deviant". Not one to let other people decide what's best for her or her body, Mandy jams a pencil into his skull: "No one fucks with me! I just want to go home!" She is then rescued by her boyfriend and the two celebrate her homecoming with a hot threeway with Coco Velvett. And that's pretty much it. End credits.

So we have to say that "Hospital" wasn't nearly as dark and ominous as the box cover led us to expect. But here's the good part: it isn't pretentious either. To its credit, the movie doesn't take itself seriously at all: everyone seems to be having an absolute hoot playing doctor and/or nurse—especially the delightful Caroline Pierce, who has a grand old time in a supply room with fellow bad nurse Sochee Mala and a strapon while Mandy watches confusedly (and turned on-edly) from a shower stall. (And we can't even begin to describe how we feel about hot newcomer Marie McCray, so we won't even try. Let's just say hot and dizzy are the least of our symptoms.)

It's the kind of hospital we certainly wouldn't mind checking in to for a while, so long as we weren't just tied to the bed or had a hole drilled into our skulls or anything. Too bad we're pretty sure our insurance wouldn't cover our stay.

The "Hospital" DVD includes extras like a making-of documentary and a bonus featurette, "Mandy Morbid's Trepanation Video". No, we have not watched it yet.

Back To The Future: Hustler's "Alt Chicks Fuck Better"

We’re not usually big fans of compilation DVDs here at Fleshbot: chances are if you missed something the first time around it's not worth watching when it gets repackaged with other similarly forgettable scenes for a quickie comp release. But given their ubiquity in the porn marketplace they're hard to ignore, and in these days of video sharing sites some companies have taken to raiding their own faults and adding never-before-scene clips to these collections to make them more attractive. And then there's Hustler's new "tribute" to alt porn, "Alt Chicks Fuck Better".

Given the fact that most alt performers, directors, and fans look for the new and unusual in their product, we're wondering whether Hustler was trying to alienate their target audience by rereleasing a bunch of clips that most alt fans—and especially we here at Fleshbot—were already pretty familiar with. (Or maybe serious alt fans were never the target audience for this comp to begin with?) Still, upon closer examination the DVD proves to serve up an interesting slice of porn history-in-the-making for those who might have ignored or overlooked it the first time around. So maybe it's unfair to dismiss it outright, even if it’s just a crass attempt on Hustler's part to cash in on something some would argue they never really understood from day one.

"Alt Chicks Fuck Better" features several moments from the altporn movement just as it was starting to take on the porn mainstream, and as such it samples from such seminal works as Eon McKai's "Art School Sluts" and the three volumes of his "Kill Girl Kill" series and maverick director Joe Gallant's "Avenue X". Among the several scenes you'll find a younger Rob Rotten carnally indoctrinating Yumi before going on to take on an anti-alt stance with his Punx Productions, and a fresh-faced Kimberly Kane when she was just an insatiable sex goddess and not yet one of our favorite directors (and insatiable sex goddess).

So really, all that’s missing to make this more of a documentary are interviews and consent. No matter what your personal take on altporn is, "Alt Chicks Fuck Better" is worthwhile as an abbreviated primer of a pornographic revolution that may best be remembered for having been co-opted by what it was originally intended to destroy. Then again, part of us thinks that you should already own most of the films it samples already, and why would you need to add another disk to your collection? Live Nude Geeks! How Geek Porn Went Mainstream

Our nerdy sibling site Kotaku has looked up from their XBox DSs or their Nintendo 360s or whatever it is that occupies most of their time and discovered that there's porn in them thar internets—and not just any porn, but geek-focused porn even! (Specifically, a babelog site called Gamer Fetish.) While they've gone all thinky about the topic, discussing the ways in which geek culture and porn culture overlap and crediting geek-themed porn with the future destigmatization of sexy pictures, we (with our extensive experience on the topic), would like to offer a slightly less highfalutin opinion on the "new" phenomenon of geek porn.

Geek porn came about in much in the same way that the pierced and tattooed girls of altporn did—in fact, back in the olden days (or at least the late '90s/early '00s), geek porn and good old fashioned altporn were pretty much both subsets of the same general amateur genre. Over time, though, both got co-opted by The Man: altporn became the province of such companies as VividAlt, and sexy geeks got such polished productions as ~~"Whores of Warcraft"~~ ~~"Whorecraft"~~ "Whorelore". If anything, the current incarnation of geek porn isn't so much a sign that geeks are making sex safe for work, or at least for dinner table conversation: it's more that Big Porn has recognized geekery as a mainstream (or mainstream enough) enough culture to eroticize, monetize, and cash in on.

But you don't really want a lecture on all that—you want pictures of naked geeky girls! Good thing we can provide that too.

Saying Goodbye To All That: When Pornstars Quit The Business

The porn business is a notoriously transient industry, with performers coming and going all the time (even if we're most used to seeing them coming). Most of those exits are quiet, like the anonymous babelog model who slips back into civilian life after a handful of shoots. But there are some gals who like to leave a little more memorably.
