Pro-Porn Women

2005_01_24_smartgirls.jpg

The next time you're confronted by an anti-porn crusader with the argument that all pornography is degrading to women (and in the wake of last week's Extreme Associates obscenity charge dismissal, you're probably going to be hearing such arguments a lot), we recommend pointing your opponent towards this lucid and extraordinarily sane editorial by University of Arizona senior Caitlin Hall which appeared in the UA student newspaper today: "Women (and men) who insist that pornography dehumanizes women to the point that it is quite literally impossible to make an informed decision to appear in it do far more than pornographers to dehumanize women ... (T)hey would have women be reduced to the status of children, in which free choice, absent coercion, is no longer sufficient—in fact, in which 'free choice' is quite literally impossible. It's hard to believe that anything could be more dehumanizing than that." We're glad she's on our side.
