Legend has it that this week marks the 60th anniversary of the creation of the bikini, invented by the French (of course) and named after the islands laid waste by atomic bomb tests—which is appropriate since the two-piece bathing suit is right up there with nuclear fusion on the list of greatest achievements in the history of mankind.
