Showtime Reality Series To Profile Vivid's "Throat"

Sasha Grey vehicle "Throat" isn't just a cautionary tale—it's also the subject of an upcoming Showtime reality series, "Deeper Throat," which tracks the film's progress from inspiration to completion, documenting the drama along the way.

What kind of drama, you ask? Well, for one thing, "Throat" is actually a (very, very loose) remake of porn classic "Deep Throat," so in order to even make the film, Vivid had to secure permission from franchise owners Ray Pistol and Arrow Productions... who had their own ideas for a "Deep Throat" remake. Old school vs. new school! Pornographer vs. pornographer! Amazing!

Not surprisingly, the media-savvy Grey wasn't too thrilled with her turn on reality TV: "I wasn't really happy with the creative direction and how I will inevitably be portrayed... It felt more like very poor acting from both my fiance and me, and less like a reality show. As far as my performance in the film, they didn't affect that too much, as I stayed focused on the movie not the faux reality. I felt that they were trying to turn Sasha Grey into Linda Lovelace."

We much prefer Sasha Grey as Sasha Grey.

Inspired by Jenna Jameson's role in "Zombie Strippers" (which opens this weekend), Premiere magazine takes a long and well-considered look at the history of porn stars in mainstream cinema from Linda Lovelace to Jenna Herself: "Whether any of these performers has a chance to graduate from porn window-dressing to 'real' roles remains (an) open question. As does, to be fair, whether all porn performers actually want mainstream acceptance. There's a big part of the industry that doesn't give it a second thought." (premiere.com)
