White Ribbons And The War On Porn: Know Your Enemy

Unless you're the kind of person who subscribes to press releases from morality defense organizations you probably weren't aware that this week is White Ribbons Against Pornography Week, which fights against the dastardly porn juggernaut. However, rather than lash out in anger at the crusaders who want to take the bread out of your Fleshbot editors' mouths, we want to congratulate WRAP on 20 years of anti-obscenity campaigning. (We won't even stoop so low as to point out that their very existence after two decades of work proves that they've had almost zero progress toward their goals!)

We also find that it's helpful to occasionally stop and get to know some of the people who are completely convinced that porn destroys everything it touches to see if we can tell what makes them tick. Like the retired military man who is suing every one in Kansas in order to change the legal definition of obscenity. Or the recovering porn "addict" and former adult star who are totally available for interviews about the secret dangers of smut. Or the "evil genius" of the Nixon White House who used to think beating up war protesters was just good politics, but now thinks all child abuse is caused by spank magazines. We've got nothing against these people—we're sure their hearts are (mostly) in the right place—but maybe if they met a few of the tens of millions of people who watch porn every day and don't become sadistic dildo-wielding murderers, they might be a little more willing to live and let live. Heck, they probably already know some them, if only something hadn't made those prevy folks afraid to speak up ...
