Some dummies have all the fun.

After (several) drinks with the charming Thomas Roche of ErosZine and sexy geek Annalee Newitz of Techsploitation and a quick tour of the complex (water torture! suspension bondage rigging! Old West horseplay!), we settled down into seats for a screening of their latest series, Behind Kink, an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making the transgressive smut we've come to know and love.

It's not a porn studio party unless someone's surrounded by boobs — in this case, the lucky gent was our host, Brian James.

Halfway through the first episode, "Breaking in Bobbi," (featuring master rigger Lew Reubens) it became apparent that for all the sensational hype surrounding videos of women tied up and dunked in water, the reality is a bit more mundane. Having gone to film school, we know all to well that shooting a movie can be incredibly boring. There's meticulous preparation, lots and lots of waiting around, anxious cameramen looking for a good angle and egos that need stroking. Of course, on a Kink.com shoot, there's a lot more than just egos stroked, but it all boils down to the same thing. We found the process almost sexier than the finished product. But that's probably because our idea of a fetish object is a JVC HD-Cam.

The two other clips, starring bondage superstar Sir C and the crew behind FuckingMachines, respectively, were more of the same. After the screening, Brian James introduced the crew to wild applause. He explained that originally, CEO Peter Ackworth wanted to give the mini-docuementaries away for free. But someone talked some sense into him. Still, the site is updated every Thursday with new video—and at $4.50 a month, it's a pretty good deal, especially since you get to check out shoots from their entire range of content.

As the booze began to work it's magic, some people just couldn't help themselves.

After that, everyone repaired to the bar (which we found out isn't just there for the benefit of schmoozing guests—like every other room in the building, it doubles as a set, too) for idle chit-chat over a DJ spinning funk and disco. We left earlier than we should have, as the party got decidedly raunchier as the night wore on. But not before our personal highlight of the night, a wink from Ariel X that made us just a little weak in the knees. Like the rest of you, we had to settle for living vicariously through the photos.

Hey, it's kind of like our prom! Except, you know, in the hallway of a dungeon.
