Miss France 2006: Alexandra Rosenfeld

88564717_small.jpg

The voting is over and Miss France 2006 has been crowned: from Languedoc, Alexandra Rosenfeld was chosen by the judges and the public to represent all French hotties for the upcoming year. Along with some of her fellow contestants, Alexandra has a blog; featuring candid snaps of Alexandra (whose nickname, inexplicably, is "Pancakes") on the runway and hanging out with friends, it's a strictly G-rated affair. Now that she's famous, though, we're sure there will be plenty of Euros on offer to change that. (We just hope the French are enlightened enough not to yank her prize if she decides to pose nude, á la our own Vanessa Williams ... or for that matter, Miss France 2004, Laetitia Bléger.)- J. West

I know this may sound presumptuous, but I am convinced I am responsible for Miss France's nickname, "Pancakes."

I was the first person to bring "pancakes" to Languedoc, which is a very rural, non-chic area of the country...kinda like saying you're from the back 40 in Alabama. I lived there in 1991, and I invited everyone in my village to come to my house for a Pancake Party...Alexandra would have been a toddler at this time. Everyone knows everyone; it's SMALL.

The whole village was so curious about me and my cooking: "Qu'est-ce que c'est une pancake?" Families who hadn't spoken to each other in generations came to my brunch, Muslim and Catholic.

The pancakes were a big hit, and my guests grasped the cuteness of the meal's name-- c'est trés mignon. The French cannot resist a darling bon mot, and it is clear to me that someone decided to apply it to their pretty little girl!

another pressing mystery solved - thanks Susie!
