Back To The Future: Hustler's "Alt Chicks Fuck Better"

We’re not usually big fans of compilation DVDs here at Fleshbot: chances are if you missed something the first time around it's not worth watching when it gets repackaged with other similarly forgettable scenes for a quickie comp release. But given their ubiquity in the porn marketplace they're hard to ignore, and in these days of video sharing sites some companies have taken to raiding their own faults and adding never-before-scene clips to these collections to make them more attractive. And then there's Hustler's new "tribute" to alt porn, "Alt Chicks Fuck Better".

Given the fact that most alt performers, directors, and fans look for the new and unusual in their product, we're wondering whether Hustler was trying to alienate their target audience by rereleasing a bunch of clips that most alt fans—and especially we here at Fleshbot—were already pretty familiar with. (Or maybe serious alt fans were never the target audience for this comp to begin with?) Still, upon closer examination the DVD proves to serve up an interesting slice of porn history-in-the-making for those who might have ignored or overlooked it the first time around. So maybe it's unfair to dismiss it outright, even if it’s just a crass attempt on Hustler's part to cash in on something some would argue they never really understood from day one.

"Alt Chicks Fuck Better" features several moments from the altporn movement just as it was starting to take on the porn mainstream, and as such it samples from such seminal works as Eon McKai's "Art School Sluts" and the three volumes of his "Kill Girl Kill" series and maverick director Joe Gallant's "Avenue X". Among the several scenes you'll find a younger Rob Rotten carnally indoctrinating Yumi before going on to take on an anti-alt stance with his Punx Productions, and a fresh-faced Kimberly Kane when she was just an insatiable sex goddess and not yet one of our favorite directors (and insatiable sex goddess).

So really, all that’s missing to make this more of a documentary are interviews and consent. No matter what your personal take on altporn is, "Alt Chicks Fuck Better" is worthwhile as an abbreviated primer of a pornographic revolution that may best be remembered for having been co-opted by what it was originally intended to destroy. Then again, part of us thinks that you should already own most of the films it samples already, and why would you need to add another disk to your collection? Of course, Google would never actually "censor" content on their free web hosting service—they just put up a giant sign post blocking you from the site you're trying to reach, and imply that you must be some sort of twisted perv for even wanting to see it. We could write a book about the silliness of that system, but we much prefer this more subtle form of protest: the "I Understand And I Wish To Continue" Award. Everyone Wants To Be Naked And Famous: Gillian Wearing's "Pin-Ups"

In the future, it is said, everyone will be naked and famous for fifteen minutes. (At least we think that's what they say; we might have gotten things mixed up a little.) While modern technology has helped to make that goal obtainable through things like consumer grade video cameras and cellphone cameras, artist Gillian Wearing is also doing her part through her "Pin-Ups" series of paintings, in which aspiring models who responded to her casting call were transformed into framed objects of desire.

As our friends at Sex-And-Blogs describe the project:

"Select respondents were made-over with the help of hair stylists and make-up artists, and photographed in a glamour-style photo shoot. The resulting photos were also digitally retouched to help achieve the desired visual effect. Wearing then had the manipulated photographs transformed into unique—almost nostalgic—painted portraits."

It's an interesting concept, though it might have been even more interesting if the subjects who responded to Wearing's ad didn't already look like pin-up subjects to begin with. As soon as an artist comes along who comes up with a way to transform those of us with paunches and less-than-perfect boobs into classic pin-up material, we'll be taking off our clothes quicker than you can say "Andy Warhol".

The teaser is a little long, but it does provide a tidy synopsis of the entire story and all the characters, so you really do come to understand the themes and symbolism of the film as a whole. The internet is a big place, and try as we might, we can't always get to it all. Still, it's disappointing to find you've arrived too late at an exciting web destination. So who do we root for in "Kiss Attack," this comic art/porn/hip hop/rave/drag effort by artist Carlos Batts and his wife, the zaftig April Flores, who plays lead vampire babe Ms. Sangre? Well, in that Sangre's sisters include Sasha Grey, Sara Vandella, and a woman named La Cholita, we vote for the bloodsuckers, stupid.

Batts enlisted the help of New Mexico artist Nathan Carlisle, whose splendid animations fleshed out characters (like Drakul) that budget restrictions prevented from human depiction.

But where "Kiss Attack" really succeeds (as it should) is in its sex scenes, each with its own color palette, such as this one with the pale and lush Sara Vandalla and this vivid (small v) exchange with Sasha Grey.

Do we really learn anything new about vampires in "Kiss Attack"? Er, no. But they're a fuckload sexier than werewolves.

Since we're drawn to words here at Fleshbot almost as much as we're turned on by a good sense of humor (looking at naked boobs all day is really just an excuse to write funny things about them, honest!), we were immediately intrigued by the title of Chicago artist K Leo's online portfolio. Finally, an art nude photographer who didn't take himself quite so seriously! Which isn't to say that the photos on display at Mirth And Beauty aren't professional or anything—on the contrary, they're among the most technically accomplished (and sexiest) art nudes we've come across lately. And while K Leo's definition of mirth may not include things like naked babes in clown makeup, there's still more than enough beauty in his work to make us smile. When one of your subjects is a Chicago burlesque performer named Kitten Kaboodle, it's hard not to.

Carrie Leigh is a fine art photographer who used to live with Hugh Hefner back in the day, so she knows a thing or two about taking pictures of naked women and publishing them on glossy paper. So when she launched her own magazine last year, it really shouldn't have been a surprise that she would do it right The simply titled "Nude" is now on its fourth issue and gives you exactly what it promises—nude models, and lots of them. Why does the sex in porn movies never look like the sex you're having in your own bedroom? Well, for starters you don't have a professional film crew highlighting the choicest bits and conveniently editing out the awkward transitions. Actually, that pretty much covers it. If you knew photographer David Steinberg, however, that might change, because he doesn't make glossy, unblemished porn art, but he does photograph actual couples having actual sex ... and he still makes it look pretty hot. His "Erotic by Nature" series of sharp black and white photographs steers clear of the messy parts, but the sex he portrays looks more like what's going on in your bedroom than the average skin flick. Have you heard? The Gong Show is back! We were very excited to learn of this development, because we like nonsensical performance art and big shiny metal objects. But mostly we're just tuning in hoping to see whatever 2008's version of The Popsicle Twins might be. After all, the very first episode featured this bizarre, yet acrobatic, pseudo-burlesque act and because outrageous behavior and gratuitous nudity can only help you in this environment, the big finish involved clothing removal. It can only get better—and by "better" we mean much, much worse—from here, right?

A mere two years after releasing the teaser, Digital Playground has released the cover art for "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge", leading to widespread speculation that the actual movie might arrive by the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010. Featuring a family-friendly, nowhere-near nude septet tableau including Stoya, Katsuni, and Jesse Jane front and center, the cover also features a diverse cast representative of porn's vaunted crossover appeal, including Belinda Carlisle, The Grimace, and Godzilla.

They Would Like To Fuck; Your Mileage May Vary

We're so used to certain publications and websites which feature photos of naked people going out of their way to say that they're not porn that the editorial statement for the newishly-launched WLTF magazine is a breath of fresh air:

"WLTF is primarily about desire, sexual desire, so does that make it porn? I don't know ...The images are about what the contributors would like to fuck, but that could be anything, it could be human, animal, vegetable, object or anything else. It’s about desire, that’s it, desire and all of its subjectivity. Contributors just have to use their imagination and be honest about what their fetishes and fantasies are."

All of which dovetails nicely with our own editorial mission here at Fleshbot, and explains why we're so looking forward to seeing more issues (both digital and print versions) coming down the pipe from editor Rodrigo Novaes and his band of merry contributors. After all, just because you're not turned on by photos of a naked woman wrapped in cellophane or a guy in underwear and a Darth Vader mask doesn't mean there isn't someone out there who is. As we're so fond of saying around here, it's a big world.

It's hard to pull that off without looking arrogant, mean, or just full of yourself. However, if you've also got the guts to put your naked body out on the internet for everyone to see, then we're willing to overlook a little cockiness. The model in question, "Marla," is definitely not shy and her bold images are simultaneously out there and in your face. But you probably want to know if she can back up her blog's claim.
