That was my point. All Computer Manufacturers charge more for their parts and service than is reasonable. Apple is on the extreme end, sure, thats fine, but yeah, Bash or anybody else with more than 2 brain cells to rub together would balk at the quoted price and take it to another shop/person to do :P

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Five Games That Matter In Hideo Kojima's Life]]> Heh, somebody should have said "Hideo you can't pick your own games" before asking just to give us another interesting one at #5, but huge props on picking Xevious, one of my favorite shmups ever!

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Computer Getting Hot, Me Melting]]> @dirtypanda: What are you even talking about? What upgrades? Its a MacBook Pro, all you can really upgrade in it is RAM, HDD, and Optical Drive. Those things can all be easily put in yourself (optical is a bit difficult, but not very), and purchased from the same retailers that you get your PC components from, except maybe the optical, but unless you need internal Blu Ray they come standard with DVD burners.

I understand if you don't like or understand Apple computers, but at least be informed before you troll on them; there are plenty of REAL reasons to take issue with Apple, but unless you time travel back to the mid-90s or lack any technical expertise to just do the upgrade yourself, expensive component costs are not one of them.

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Computer Getting Hot, Me Melting]]> @RBecho: heh, actually I think they're just riffing on the fact that Kotaku itself is shilling for Coors, but I could certainly be wrong :P

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Computer Getting Hot, Me Melting]]> @Tyber_Zann: Yeah, thats about as useful as going onto a post about a 360/PS3 exclusive game and saying get the other system instead :P

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Computer Getting Hot, Me Melting]]> Are you having issues with performance due to the heat, or just it being superhot either burning your lap or concerning you in general?

They're rated to operate up to 95 degrees Farenheit (35 C) at up to 90% humidity, so if you're not experiencing operational problems I would just make sure your data is well backed up by Time Machine or something similar and store that HDD in as cool a location as possible, not much else you can do for the moment.

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Rumor: More Rock Band 2 Songs Leaked?]]> @TheJ3ff: NO. I hate that band so much

Oh, was that not what this game was about?

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Resistance 2's Leviathan Unveiled]]> What in the hell kind of gun do you need to even make that thing feel it? Something akin to the Redeemer in UT? Or is there going to be a tank of some kind?

I was already impressed at the scope they were going for in MP, had no idea the SP was going to have craziness on this level.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Bastard Thieves Steal PS3 From Disabled Teenager]]> Seriously thats one of the saddest things I've seen this week. I don't think it would be out of order for Child's Play or some other organization to send this kid another PS3, cause this is just shitty as hell.

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Devil May Explode BAM! BOOM! POW!]]> Speaking from some experience buying fireworks in Missouri (lived there from 96-2002), the worst part is its probably not even a very impressive firework, the "10 shot" moniker in particular means its probably nothing more than an overly glorified roman candle :P

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Is This Official Chrono Trigger DS Confirmation?]]> @Placentasaurus: "The cartridge size is too small for something as epic as Chrono Trigger."

Really? The carts are quite a bit larger than the SNES ones were, and they seemed to hold the game just fine.

Unless its not a remake, but even then it should work just fine, just won't have a bunch of unnecessary fmv cutscenes cluttering up the beauty that is Chrono Trigger.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Is This Official Chrono Trigger DS Confirmation?]]> So its another remake? I mean, I'll probably still buy it, but I really was hoping for a whole new game. Guess thats too much to expect from Square-Enix these days.

On the other hand, given some of the recent games I've played from them (FFT D2 being a lone, happy exception), I probably wouldn't get that excited for it if it was a fully new game.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Activision Boss Wants Cheaper Consoles]]> @quen: Yeah I'm not saying that consoles don't have their own special issues that affect their pricing but I guess the point is how they enforce the MSRP, as you said other products don't drop off their MSRP quickly either, but for the most part they allow retailers flexibility in setting pricing that console manufacturers do not.

There is ALSO the licensing to consider, traditionally console makers never really turn a profit on hardware even when their costs go down, they simply recoup and profit from the piece they get out of every $60 game sold. From that perspective more regular price drops make even more sense, as the cheaper a console is in theory the more people will buy it and buy new games. Thats the reason Sony originally talked about locking games to each PS3 (an idea abandoned well before launch, of course, for obvious reasons) as a way to curb rentals and used sales, that hurts their profitability more than the money they're losing on the hardware.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Work for Kotaku (In Comments)]]> I look forward to seeing who the top 5 are, do people who were in it last time like Enigma get another shot, or is it the top 5 other than those? Just curious, I'm much more amenable to him having the hammer this time, now that I know him a bit better :P

Still, can't go wrong with Spoony, or any of the other people who have a ton of followers. Eagerly await those results.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Activision Boss Wants Cheaper Consoles]]> Seems pretty straightforward, EVERYBODY except the manufacturers themselves would like consoles to not only be cheaper, but to decline in price or expand in features more regularly. Every single comparable piece of tech on the market declines on a gradual curve, why should consoles be different? Even just $10 every 3 months would be something, and it would avoid the sense of buyer's remorse that more dramatic drops tend to engender in the early adopters.

Of course, I'm sure MS/Sony/Nintendo would be more interested in that if Activision wanted to share some of its own obscene money pile with them to help get it accomplished. What's that, Bobby Kotick isn't listening to that, too busy diving into a huge vat of money Uncle Scrooge style? I'm SHOCKED :P

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Microsoft: If We Launch A Game On 360 & PC Simultaneously, We Shoot Ourselves In The Foot]]> This is kind of at the heart of the problem with MS having a console in the first place, I don't think even they fully realize that a key part of their near monopoly with Windows rests on a pillar of gamers, and that they are increasingly alienating that segment. As a Mac user and sometimes evangelizer, I'm keenly aware of this, reason Number One that I always get from people on why they hesitate to even consider owning a Macintosh is the lack of new and "hardcore" gaming on Mac OS X compared to Windows. With more and more devs essentially "fleeing" the computer game market for the arguably more profitable console one, MS is shooting themselves in the foot.

Games (and lack thereof) alone won't kill Windows, but MS having this attitude about them sure isn't helping the situation any.

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Too Human: "This Has To Be The Worst Game I've Played In The Last 5 Years"]]> So, who here thinks this guy actually played the Aquaman game and has that for reference in making this statement?

The review was so crappy I just HAD to see for myself what they were talking about, and yeah, its totally broken basically. I can't imagine, with the development time and resources being put into it, that Too Human even has a chance to be that horrible. It might not be great, obviously I have no idea since it isn't out yet, but on production values alone it has to be at least ok by comparison.

So yeah, I've reading this as "I haven't played that many bad games in the last 5 years" more than a specific knock on Too Human :P

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Soulcalibur Hits Live Arcade Wednesday]]> @thezman: I must have heard you wrong, did you actually say VF5 is better than this game? Really? Seriously go play this game again and then come back and tell me that again. The only way you put VF5 above SC1 is graphically, in my opinion.

And as others have said, this game NEEDS NO ONLINE, its a real fighting game, and as such is meant to be played in the presence of your real, physical friends. This is not a game that would tolerate lag, nor would they have been able to put it out as easily on XBL if they had to recode it to do so.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Soulcalibur Hits Live Arcade Wednesday]]> @gamadaya: damn man, when did you get back?

Also, this game rocks, might be work getting some points for since I haven't seen that disc in ages :(

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on 10 Books That Were Better Off on Paper]]> I just want to say, Starship Troopers was an excellent book, and not at all well served by Verhoeven's adaption. We got the point in Robocop Paul, mindless allegiance to an all-encompassing authority only gets your humanity taken away, yes. You should have at least read the book.

Basically, all the politics and philosophy aside, the big point of the book and one of the things that made it so great at the time was the Gorilla Mech suits the human soldiers wore. Taking those out of the movie is one of the worst book-film decisions in modern cinematic history, as far as I'm concerned.

A book of his that I would like to see made into a movie, IF they could find a director who would approach it with the right mindset, is The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. TANSTAAFL, and everybody should know it. I would suggest that people who don't recognize Heinlein as a great author for that work alone need to get their eyes and brains checked.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Europe Gets Rock Band 2 In September As Well]]> Thank you Harmonix! Now I don't have to listen to Cchrist Bitch for month and months about how you and EA have screwed him, as I did with the first game.

Seriously though, if the game had to drop this year (I'm still in a bit of shock over that) they've handled it extremely well, and doing a simultaneous Europe release is a big part of that.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on You're Not Getting Starcraft for Christmas]]> "That said, Mac gamers can expect a simultaneous release of this title, too - whenever it arrives"

As others have noted, your statement is a bit redundant Owen, if Blizzard makes a game, it comes out for Mac at the same time.

Not surprised by this at all actually, I always thought next Spring was a more likely launch window than december.

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Watchmen Shouldn't Be A Movie]]> Excellent article that summarizes many of my problems with the project. Its funny because while I like Watchmen and fully recognize the influence it has wielded on all the "serious" comics work that has followed, I don't LOVE Watchmen the way some of my other comic-loving friends do. I was particularly struck by this when reading issue 6 of J. Michael Straczynski's excellent comic "The Twelve". Watchmen feels like a rough draft, The Twelve like a finished work in some ways.

Still, I'll probably go see this in the theaters, which will be a first for a Moore-derived movie, I stayed away from both League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and V for Vendetta for various reasons. Even if the movie isn't great, just the attempt should be interesting enough to be worth watching.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Spider-Man Deserves Better, Yo]]> I agree with his basic premise that the games could and should be better, with one big caveat: in the wake of the horrible "brand new day" storyline, the current line of Spidey comics is brain-meltingly stupid. I bought the last 3 issues of Amazing because the wonderful Dan Slott is now the writer on that series (She Hulk, The Thing), but he is so constrained by the idiocy of the Brand New Day revamp that they still ended up complete garbage.

So yeah, maybe if they got somebody who actually knows how to write Spiderman well (JMS we need YOU!) in comics to work on a game the results would be good, but the current creative team and their dark, evil master Joe Quesada are not the ones you would want.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on RE5 Race Debate Continues]]> I think this is a fully valid opinion, in that it really only addresses this 3 minute clip, made far before the full retail version. However I do find it interesting that we're keying in on "historical context" but completely ignoring the direct context of the plot of the games, the fact that the people in the clip are zombies, the developers Japanese and therefore possibly ignorant of that historical context themselves, etc.

That is not to say that I don't also think Capcom owes the public and, perhaps more importantly, its loyal customers a more direct response to this issue, one that addresses the issues of race and how/if they factor into the plot. For all we know there will be an expository sequence in the game where Leon expresses his sincere disgust for being forced to mow down hordes of African Villagers because of their infection, with accompanying context to show he is not a tool of white supremacy and colonialism in any fashion, but all we see is these clips without any plot context.

Still, I don't find these discussions bad per se, anything that might advance the "conversation" about Race, both in the USA and other countries, is not inherently evil. To paraphrase what Yoda said, you have only what you bring with you in this discussion, try to make it something worthwhile and intelligent, rather than ignorant and hateful.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Still Collecting Games For Troops]]> @god_emperor: YOU might want to re-read the comments in question, they were about the soldiers (AS IS THIS WHOLE ARTICLE), not the right/wrong of the War. I for one HATE this war and what it has done to not just Iraq, Afghanistan, Our reputation around the world, etc, but also what it has done to our military. They are stretched to the breaking point and if playing some video games in their down time makes the experience less hellish for them then I'm all for it, they didn't choose this conflict any more than you or I did. They just chose to serve our country and its ideals, as others have said probably in many cases to further educate themselves and rise from impoverished states (look at the stats, the poorest areas have high enlistment rates usually), to make themselves and their communities better.

]]>
<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Still Collecting Games For Troops]]> @Indietendo64: As someone who considers himself fairly "liberal" I consider it insulting that someone who is so ignorant he apparently didn't even know JFK got us into Vietnam would associate himself with that term.

You aren't fit to lick the boots of any of our soldiers, let alone make ignorant comments about them. Hope you stay banned you piece of dog excrement.

<![CDATA[DaiMacculate commented on Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Does NASCAR]]> @Dalren: Did you miss the whole Rock Band/GH guitar compatibility debacle? Thats why I won't buy another GH game, personally. Has nothing to do with the specific music (though I'm not an Aerosmith fan so that doesn't help either), but I refuse to show Activision that we're totally cool with their obnoxious hardware practices by continuing to give them money. They don't care what we say for the most part of course, but if enough of us don't buy it they *might* at least try to figure out why :P
