Tristan Taormino's "Chemistry" Release Party

Like all good parties, the most fun at the release bash for Tristan Taormino's Vivid debut "Chemistry Volume 1" at 49 Grove in NYC last night was had in the bathroom. Which isn't to say that people weren't enjoying themselves elsewhere amidst all those curtains and swanky velvet sofas in the main part of the club (the two hour open bar sure helped too)—but if you wanted to catch universal internet crush object Dana DeArmond and the directrix herself holding court before their adoring fans, the coed bathroom was the place to be.

Tristan throws porno parties that don't look like porno parties, partly due to the fact that they happen in New York: everyone is well-dressed (dressed! with clothes!) and slightly disaffected because it's uncool in New York to look excited about, well, anything. But though we're jaded about lots of things, New Yorkers—or at least the ones who go to Tristan's parties—are passionate and opionated about their porn.

And Tristan's standards for her movies are exacting, which—even though she culls from the massive talent pool of Porn Valley—makes her job a lot tougher: "First of all, my performers can't be on drugs, so that cuts out a lot of people. Then they have to be articulate and in touch with their sexuality, and really like having sex, which cuts out even more people."

But the ones who are leftover really bring it on, and there was so much sex on the set of "Chemistry" that Tristan found herself scolding her performers. And word has it that she just might have helped a certain male performer get rid of some of that excess sexual energy after filming one of his scenes ... but you'll have to watch the DVD extras for that. All in a day's work.

Alas, no full-on orgy action at last night's party. But the bathroom makeout sessions came close:
